SICILY. Messana. Circa mid 4th century BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 15 mm, 2.00 g, 6 h). Head of Hephaistos to right, wearing conical pilos. Rev. Monogram of ME within wreath of grain ears. BCD Peloponnesos 1331.1 (this coin, but as Methana in Argolis). G. Gargano, SNR 87 (2008), p. 29 and fig. 6 (this coin, but as mercenary issue from Sicily or Bruttium). Extremely rare. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.
